WORK will start next week on a new £11m home for Kendal Rugby Club - paving the way for a new supermarket for the town.
Widnes-based Morbaine Properties has pledged the cash to relocate the Hornets to a new state-of-the-art complex comprising purpose-built sports and training facilities at Mill Field on Shap Road.
The move will result in the construction of an 83,000 sq ft Sainsbury's store on the rugby club's old site, which is scheduled to open in 2018.
Around 350 jobs will be created.
Work will start on the new rugby facilities on Monday.
John Parle, managing director of Morbaine Properties, said: "This development has taken a number of years to bring to fruition.
"I would take this opportunity to thank J Sainsbury and the rugby club trustees for their patience on this project, which will deliver outstanding facilities and amenities for the people of Kendal."
