A MAN who crashed his car into a wall while swerving to avoid a deer was found to be over the drink drive limit.
Robert Last, 30, of Bank Top, Cark-in-Cartmel, was breathalysed by police after they attended a road traffic collision in the early hours of June 5.
South Cumbria Magistrates' Court heard his car was in collision with a wall on the B5277 between Lindale and Grange.
Last pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol. He was found to have 65microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath - the legal limit is 35mg.
Peter Kelly, prosecuting, said: "Mr Last's blue Vauxhall Corsa was found in a crashed condition partially blocking the road after making contact with the wall.
"He said he had swerved to avoid a deer which had appeared in the carriageway."
In mitigation Last said: "I had consumed alcohol the evening before and made the mistake of thinking I was fit to drive and I was wrong."
He was banned from driving for 19-months, fined £325 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a victim surcharge of £33.
