A NEW extension to Arnside Educational Institute will be officially unveiled at a celebratory event on Saturday afternoon.
The event at 3,30pm will also include the launch of the Library Link which is housed in the same building.
The new extension has been part-funded by Cumbria County Council and Cllr Ian Stewart said: “This event is a fantastic way to launch the new extension and the new library area.
"Maintaining library services across Cumbrian communities is of paramount importance to the council, and the new facility will provide a modern, welcoming space, offering disabled access and a children’s area.
"I’m also very pleased to confirm the new extended opening hours – the local community will benefit tremendously from their library being accessible six days a week.”
The new site is fully accessible with a ramped entrance and automatic doors, dedicated children’s area and soft seating.
It will be open every weekday from 9am to 7pm and Saturday 9am to 5pm.
The Library Link operates on a self-service basis via the use of a ‘self-issue machine.’
Library users have adjusted well to using the machine and are given assistance if needed by library staff. The Library Link is performing well, issuing 7,000 books between April 2015 and April 2016, and is the second highest performing Library Link in Cumbria.
