A 15-year-old youth has been handed a ten year sentence - five years in a young offenders institution and five years on licence - after admitting inflicting life threatening injuries on a 13-year-old boy in a Craven community.
He pleaded guilty to assault by penetration and to wounding with intent in June this year.
Leeds Crown Court heard how the defendant battered the boy with sticks as he begged him to stop.
The boy had to undergo surgery to his bowel and suffered peritonitis and septicaemia. He continues to suffer nightmares and flashbacks.
Judge Geoffrey Marson QC described the offences as "truly horrific."
He told the 15 year-old who cannot be identified: "Your victim was only 13 and what you did caused serious life threatening injuries. He will never fully recover from what happened."
