THE charity coffee morning hostess who took her cakes onto the streets of Kendal has now raised just over £1,100 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

As reported in last week's Gazette, Liz Sharp was 'undeterred' when only two guests turned up to the World's Biggest Coffee Morning at her home on Low Fellside, held in memory of her late mum, Beth.

The JustGiving page opened by Liz has attracted a flurry of donations, and the keen baker is now hoping to raise more money for Macmillan by busking in Kendal town centre on Saturday, December 10. Clarinet player Liz plays in a woodwind trio with friends Denise Williamson, on bassoon, and Pat Hopkins, on oboe.

"People are so generous," said Liz, who sings with Eversley Choir. "We've suffered as a town from the floods and what doesn't kill you makes you stronger."
