AN 'ABSOLUTELY marvellous' day brought together young and old alike to celebrate the diamond jubilee of a vital community asset.
Celebrations took place on Saturday at the People's Hall in Sedbergh to mark its 60th year.
Sandra Gold-Wood, vice-chairman of the hall's committee, said: "It was absolutely marvellous. It couldn't have gone any better."
Around 100 people turned up in the afternoon for afternoon tea served by pupils from Settlebeck High School. There was also music from children from Sedbergh Junior School.
In the evening there was music from the Moonshine Shakers - a local band - and from Kendal-based group 'Strawberry Fields'.
The hall, on Howgill Lane, has been used for everything from wedding celebrations to birthday parties and from funeral receptions to book festivals.
Mrs Gold-Wood added: "It's a vital hub for the community. Without it where would people get together?
"The wall of that room have soaked up many happy times since it opened 60 years ago."
