GIRLS from 7th Kendal (St George’s ) Guides threw themselves into winter camping when they pitched their tents at a Sparkle and Ice event at Waddow Hall in Clitheroe.
To keep warm the girls took on different activities during the day including climbing, abseiling and learning survival skills. They also put their skills to the test on an assault course and ice rink which were both brought to the Girguiding activity centre specially for the event.
Before settling down in their tents, the girls were treated to a magnificent fireworks display.
Elodie Malcolm ,11, said: “I needed to camp in winter to complete my four season camper badge. I’m so pleased I’ve finally done it. It was brilliant to be able to camp with my friends and for us to do the activities we wanted to do”
Lucy Elbourne , 10, said: “ I have just moved up from Brownies and this was my first Guide camp. I had an great time at Sparkle and Ice and can’t wait to do it again next year”.
Guide leader Donna Malcolm said “ One of the most enjoyable things about being a leader is bringing the Guides to camps and residentials. The girl tell us that this is a part of Guiding they enjoy the most so it’s fantastic to have a winter camp on the calendar offering the girls year round residential opportunities”.
Sparkle and Ice was held at Girlguiding’s activity centres in Sussex, Hampshire and Lancashire, meaning hundreds of girls were involved across the country. It follows on from Girlguiding’s other successful events Magic and Mayhem, which is held in June, and Wellies and Wristbands, which takes place in August, giving girls even more opportunities for adventure.
