The letter by Stan Harrison about the signpost in Market Place at Kendal (February 23, 'Intrigued by signpost'), can be partly answered by a letter from me printed on January 24, 2013 when I highlighted that three of the finer pointers were not indicating the direction of their named places, although the distances were correct.
Since then the sign has been hit by a vehicle and turned by 'playful' people.
The New York - Rinteln arms have the correct angles and only need orientating. However, the mountain arms appear to have been cast upside down!
The angle of the pointers is virtually correct and these could point in the right directions, but the place names would be upside down.
