A 71-YEAR-old woman who was registered blind was found hanged in her room at a Settle care home, an inquest in Skipton was told.

Pauline Jennifer Taylor, known as Jenny, was found by care staff at Anley Hall Nursing Home at around 7am on November 26 last year.

They attempted to resuscitate her using CPR and called paramedics, who were also unable to revive her and she was pronounced dead just before 7.20am, the inquest was told.

Anley Hall manager Gillian Hardacre told the inquest that staff had made a routine check on Miss Taylor at around 4.30am when she appeared to be sleeping normally and there seemed no cause for concern.

Ms Hardacre also said she had seen and chatted to Miss Taylor the previous day when she appeared to be in good spirits, and no different to her normal self. Although she was almost blind, she was not deemed to be at risk in her room.

Miss Taylor had lived at Anley Hall since May 2015 and previously lived in Skipton, the inquest was told.

An autopsy found that she had traces of prescription drugs in her system, but not to an overdose level, and there was no alcohol.

Mr Heath said that it was tragically clear that she has taken her own life and recorded a verdict of suicide.
