A KIRKBY Lonsdale childminder has been rated 'outstanding' across the board in her very first inspection.

Jody Tomlinson opened her business just two years ago and is now 'delighted' that she has been recognised by Ofsted for her efforts.

The outstanding rating was awarded in each of the four assessment categories, which include effectiveness of the leadership and management, quality of teaching, learning and assessment, personal development, behaviour and welfare and outcomes for children.

"It's amazing really," Miss Tomlinson said. "I was very shocked. I did not expect to get outstanding. To get four is very good so I am very proud."

In the report, Miss Tomlinson was commended for her 'pursuit of excellence', the number of toys and resources available to children, her collaboration with parents and 'meticulous' self-evaluation processes.

"I think it's experience being a mother of three as well as it's nice to offer that one to one care," the 34-year-old said, explaining why she thought she had been rated so highly.

Miss Tomlinson has been working with children since she left college at 18-years-old, first as a nanny to six children and then later in nurseries.

She set up her own business as it meant she was more easily able to work around her home schedule as a mother.

"I just love seeing the children grow and develop," she said.

She has turned her downstairs into a little nursery and can look after three children under the age of five at any one time.

"Parents know their children are safe and cared for and they get what they would in a nursery but in a smaller environment," she said. "It suits some children better to be in a smaller environment."

Miss Tomlinson looks after children aged 1-11. Anyone interested in contacting her can call on 015242 73100 or 07789178985.
