MORE than 50 people attended a side-saddle talk and demonstration at Newton Rigg College, Penrith, on Saturday.
The event, organised by the Ellen Valley Riding Club, Wigton, featured speakers and riders were from The Northern Side Saddle Group.
It included a brief history of the development of this riding style and information on the dresses and clothing along with the specialised tack used both now and historically.
Barbara Stephenson (pictured left) from Egremont and Jean Marsden from Blackburn gave riding demonstrations on behalf of the saddle group. Members of the audience were then given a chance to try on some of the clothing.
There was also an opportunity for everyone to experience sitting correctly on a side-saddle - mounted on a trestle not on a horse.
Event co-ordinator David Kerry said: “This was a fascinating afternoon looking at this elegant form of riding.”
