A FURNESS beef and sheep farmer has been given the go-ahead for a new milking parlour to help secure his farm's profitability.
John Longmire, of Nettleslack Farm, north of Broughton Beck, plans to build a steel-framed building with 96 cow cubicles, and a covered slurry store.
According to documents lodged with South Lakeland District Council, the dairy venture is 'crucial for the farm to return to profitability' and to ensure it can support Mr Longmire's son William in the future.
