CHILDREN from Wilson's Endowed CE School in Over Kellet received a personal invitation to witness a mayor-making ceremony at Lancaster Town Hall.

They watched Cllr Roger Mace, who represents the Kellet ward on Lancaster City Council, don the robe and chains of office. They shared in the celebrations with dignitaries as Mr Mace was made first citizen.

Mr Mace is a regular visitor to the school and enjoys meeting with the children. He will be visiting the school in the coming months to talk to the pupils about what it means to be mayor.

Headteacher Jo Williams said: "The children were thrilled to be invited to such a special occasion. It is also important in helping the pupils develop an understanding of democracy and how decisions are made locally and nationally for them."
