THE FUTURE STARTS HERE
Today’s the first day of the rest of my living
Do I focus on getting or think about giving?
Do I shore up my riches or share what I own?
Build a fortified castle or an open door home?
Yes today’s the first day of time without end
Will I live it for me or to others attend?
Will I invest its days in lasting treasure?
Or waste the hours on personal pleasure?
So today’s the first day of the rest of my days
Its a time to pause – my future appraise
Construct bigger barns, chase recognition?
Or make myself vulnerable and take time to listen?
Today in my sphere of family and friends
My neighbours and colleagues where my circles extend
Will my time, talent and money play any part?
Do I actually have a generous heart?
Today with its choices of things that I face
‘Must have’s’ and ‘must do’s’ invading my space
Should I purchase more items – keep up with the fashion
Or look out for the needy and practice compassion?
Now today is the day that my future begins
Will I repent and ask Jesus to forgive all my sins?
Will I live out His values in both word and deed?
Comfort the lonely and hungry folk feed?
