HOUSEHOLDERS are being warned by Cumbria Trading Standards to be wary of fish sellers operating from a van in the Kendal area.
The department has received a number of reports about their cold calling activities and have asked that people report any uninvited fish salesmen.
"Fish sellers visiting Cumbria are known to engage in cold calling activities asking residents to purchase large amounts of frozen fish on the doorstep," said a spokesman. "This fish is generally of poor quality, unrefrigerated and short weight.
"Doorstep sellers often demand a cash or cheque payment and can be very persuasive in their selling techniques. Often these sellers prey on the most vulnerable who are less likely to refuse what may appear to be a bargain."
