SCOUTS from across Cumbria came together for the inaugural county cooking competition at Cartmel.
Two teams, from 5th/8th Kendal and 1st Kendal, represented the south east of the county in a hard-fought competition and their culinary skills earned them first and third places respectively.
The competition was judged by County Commissioner Eddie Ward, and Michelin starred chef Stephen Docherty, who said: “The competition was great fun and I was struck by the enthusiasm everyone had.”
Damian Bonsall, one of the adult leaders present on the day, said: “I was amazed by the standard of the food presented and created by these young people.”
County media manager Matt Sanderson said: “The competition was brilliant. The winning team had great team work, cooked really well, and had a delicious menu.
“The other teams were right up there too.”
The winning team made black pudding glazed in horseradish sauce on a bed of vine tomatoes and basil leaves and pan fried fillet of pork on a bed of celeriac mash with baby carrots and a cream ginger and fennel sauce.
For dessert they made orange and lemon posset with ginger crumb and caramel dust.
