SIXTY sheep were rescued by fire crews at Grange when they became stranded by the incoming tide.
The animals were rescued using a four-by-four and two boats. 40 of the sheep were hoisted or lifted from the water, and a further 20 were evacuated from land further down the promenade.
The rescue was carried out by three fire crews. It was coordinated by a team of four from Grange, assisted by two swift water rescue teams from Kendal and Ulverston.
Kendal fire and rescue service watch manager Richard Gibson said: "The sheep had been grazing on the grassland on the flat marsh area and high tide came in and cut them off."
