Two brothers battled gales, freezing temperatures and limb-deadening fatigue to complete an epic two day aquatic adventure for charity.
Mark and Richard Walsh, from Kirkby Stephen, are celebrating after swimming the length of 11 Lakeland lakes in 48 hours that involved being in the water for 50 miles, the equivalent of more than 3,000 lengths of a public swimming pool.
Mark Walsh, a geography and PE teacher at Kirkby Stephen Grammar School, said the challenge nearly floundered before the first stroke when they were greeted with gale force winds at Windermere in the early hours of Saturday morning.
