THE Lake District National Park Authority has welcomed five new members from across Cumbria.

Patterdale Parish Councillor Judith Cooke, a Secretary of State appointment, has joined the authority's team of 22, along with Cumbria County Councillor Bryan Metz, of Garrigill, who is also joint leader and chairman of environment policy on Eden District Council.

Wasdale resident Michael McKinley has also been appointed by the Secretary of State and will be joined on the LDNPA by former mayor of Copeland and Cumbria County Councillor, Norman Clarkson, of Seascale.

And councillor Bill Jefferson, of Silloth, will represent Allerdale Borough Council on the authority's board.

LDNPA chairman David Thornton welcomed the new recruits, who are said to possess widespread interests, expertise and a combined commitment to the area.
