THUNDERY downpours are expected in parts of Cumbria over the next few days starting this afternoon.
The Met Office says the recent warm and humid weather means thunderstorms could develop over the county although it could not predict exact locations and rainfall totals.
It says the potential period of disruption will carry on overnight and into much of Friday.
Possible impacts may be surface water flooding from intense localised rainfall causing disruption to road/rail/pedestrian travel, especially in the more urban areas. Properties may also be at risk from surface water flooding and from any nearby watercourses that could rise rapidly.
The risk of thunderstorms reduces over the weekend, but there may still be a risk of heavy downpours in Cumbria on Saturday.
