A North Yorkshire man suffered 'life-threatening' head injuries in a traffic collision on Thursday night.

He was the driver of a Peugeot 207 which was involved in an incident with heavy goods vehicle (HGV) on the B648 at Wennington, near Bentham, at around 8pm on Thursday May 31.

The man, 22 and from Ingleton, was flown to the Royal Preston Hospital by air ambulance, having been freed by firefighters.

Fire engines from Bentham, Settle, Kirkby Lonsdale and a specialist incident support unit from Ripon were mobilised to assist in the aftermath of the collision.

Crews used hydraulic cutting gear and small tools to perform a door removal the driver was extracted and then handed to the air ambulance crew

The HGV driver, a 47-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injuries by dangerous driving.
