THE Snail and The Whale - join a tiny snail on her trip around the world in Tall Stories' magical, musical adaptation of the fantastic picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. Longing for adventure the snail hitches a ride on a humpback whale, but when the whale gets beached, how will the snail save him? CUMBERLAND Show – a chance to enjoy a taste of Cumbrian country life at East Park, Brisco, Carlisle, on Saturday (June 16), from 8am-6pm. As with all country shows there’s a large variety of livestock classes including beef, dairy and sheep; heavy and light horses; poultry classes; and vintage vehicle classes, too. There’s displays of rural crafts and skills, a Home Industries Marquee, Craft Marquee, Country Living Arcade, Food Hall, a wide range of trade stands and a variety of entertainment around the showfield. The main ring showcases Concours de Elegance; Carriage Driving Arena Challenge, Pony Club Games, Vintage Vehicles Display and Parade of Champions, which all make for a great family day out.

FAMILY Fun Day at Haverthwaite Playing Field, near Grange-over-Sands, on Sunday (June 17) from 10am-4pm. This event, hosted by Cartmel Young Farmers includes everything for a great family day out with bouncy castles, magician, little beasties, donkey rides, stalls, barbecue, refreshments, games and much more.

LAKES Classic Vehicle Show takes place on Grasmere Sports Field (beside the A591) on Sunday (June 17) from 10.30am-4.30pm. This 7th annual show, organised by Windermere & Ambleside Lions, will feature more than 300 classic cars and motorbikes, plus trade stands, live music, Scalextric, car pull and a competition to identify unusual motor parts. Since the event began £45,000 has been raised for local charities. The classic vehicles taking part will include those from the BMW, Triumph and Morris Minor owners' clubs.

THE 25th Annual Putnam Spelling Bee performed by students of Kendal College is a riotous ride, wildly funny, fast-paced and touching musical with a truly fresh and vibrant score. The story tells of a group of quirky students on their journey to become the champion speller at the bee, along the way they discover the true meaning of winning and losing. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! On stage at The Brewery, Kendal, from Wednesday to Saturday (June 13-16). Evening Performances at 7.30pm. Friday and Saturday matinees at 1pm.
