THE M6 has re-opened in both directions 24 hours after a lorry travelling south struck a bridgein north Lancashire.

Work to repair the bridge, which was deemed to be unsafe, continued throughout the night.

Diversion routes were filled with traffic throughout yesterday and this morning.

Some motorists were stuck between junctions 33 (Galgate) and 32 (Broughton Interchange), for up to seven hours.

The northbound carriageway re-opened this morning at 5am.

And the southbound re-opened shortly after 9am.
