SOLFEST Music Festival is regarded as one of the best-loved music events in the UK. It takes place on the very busy Bank Holiday Weekend (August 24-26) at Tarnside Farms, Tarns, near Aspatria (CA7 4NG). Accordingly, it’s a festival promoting the spirit of inclusion and so no matter if you are a punk, raver, gran, toddler, soul diva or the like, you are assured of a very big welcome. There’s not just the music to be enjoyed there’s workshops, walkabout performers, a Healing Garden, kids safe play area, Kite Displays, fancy dress and the Solfest Garden. There’s also the opportunity to camp out, too. The line-up includes Slamboree, Willy and the Bandits, The Lucid Dream, Maxiroots, The Hellfire Orchestra and many more.

TAKING place over the bank holiday weekend (August 25-27), historic Muncaster Castle, at Ravenglass, returns to the 15th century with the Red Wyvern Re-enactment Society doing its thing! If you think history is boring then think again. Medieval Muncaster brings the past to life with enthusiastic and knowledgeable re-enacters from the time of the Wars of the Roses. Gates open 10.30am-5pm.

SUNDAY (August 26) sees the return of the Grasmere Lakeland Sports & Show, now celebrating its 168th year. This annual event has been a popular local institution unbroken except for two periods of the First and Second World Wars. Known for its variety of sports which include Cumberland & Westmorland Wrestling, Fell Running and Hound Trails, it is a real family event for locals and visitors alike. The venue is the Show Field, Stock Lane, Grasmere. Gates open at 10am.

STATUS Quo are set to rock Kendal town and the Mint Bridge Stadium (RUFU) when they perform on Bank Holiday Monday (August 27, 2pm). The legends, led by Francis Rossie OBE, play full support at this venue in an open air setting, and support line-up includes Lancaster's Massive Wagons and Huddersfield's Storm. The band, who have been performing for more than 50 years, has now changed pace, playing one-off gigs and festivals. Even so, by the end of the year the band will have played at least 14 countries!

KESWICK Agricultural Show takes place on bank holiday Monday (August 27), at Pumpfield, Old Braithwaite Bridge, Old Road, Braithwaite. Competing for the array of cups and trophies on offer are Ponies, Horses, Sheep, Dogs and Poultry. There's a marquee for Home produce, Handicrafts and Horticulture, as well as Fell Races, Cumberland & Westmorland Wrestling, Art & Craft marquee, children's amusements plus more than 60 trade stands. A great traditional event for all.

THE Millom & Broughton Agricultural Show has a long and rich history, and is one of the many highlights of the seasonal calendar within the local area. The show has something for everyone from Vintage Machinery, Livestock, Children’s entertainment to Crafts and the ever popular and present (at virtually all shows) Cumberland & Westmorland Wrestling. According to the locals the show shines a light on rural life and the skills, energy and enthusiasm by all involved and its community. It takes place on Saturday (August 25) from 9am, at the Showfield, Broughton-in-Furness (off A593, road to Torver).
