CUMBRIA police are investigating a serious collison on the A66 this morning (October 9) shortly before 8 am and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Part of the A66 was closed in West Cumbria between Chapel Brow roundabout, Bridgefoot, and Broughton Cross.
Two vehicles, a Citroen van and a Citroen car, were involved in the collision.
The driver of the Citroen C3 car, 19-year old Casey Leigh Sowerby of Workington, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver and passenger in the Citroen Berlingo suffered minor injuries but the driver of the van, a 31-year old male, was arrested on suspicion of drug driving prior to attending hospital. He has since been released under investigation whilst officers continue with their investigation.
The road was re-opened at around 12:40pm.
Police are appealing for witnesses who may have information to get in touch by calling 101 and ask for PC Callum Radzan.
