South Lakes MP Tim Farron has tabled a motion in the House of Commons as part of his campaign to save Kendal post office.
The motion calls on the Government to halt its programme of relocating Crown post offices, including the one in Kendal, with immediate effect.
Meanwhile Tim’s petition to save the post office from being relocated to the much smaller WHSmith building has now reached over 2,500 signatures.
Tim said: “The decision to close Kendal’s current post office and move it into WHSmith was made by people sat behind keyboards in London who have no idea about the importance of our post office to the local community.
“The Government’s programme of relocating post offices has now been taken too far in places like ours where post offices are being moved to facilities which simply aren’t big enough, resulting in a drastic reduction in the services that the post office can provide.
“I’ve been overwhelmed by the incredible support we’ve received for the campaign so far. But I would encourage everyone to keep on sharing the petition – we can only win if we stand together as a whole community as we have done so many times before
