SEVEN days of events to nurture friendship between faiths took place in Kendal.

The nationwide Inter Faith Week 2018 was celebrated in the town with the theme "unity in diversity" - also chosen by Kendal mayor Cllr Guy Tirvengadum for his year in office.

The week began with an open day at the Christian Science Reading Room on Sandes Avenue.

Kendal Town Hall hosted a gathering by South Lakeland Interfaith Forum, where people shared uplifting quotes or thoughts on diversity by writing them on a leaf. A colourful collage was created from the inscribed leaves.

Retired Roman Catholic priest Monsignor Francis Slattery held a discussion about the life of St Aidan and icons at the Milnthorpe presbytery.

Kendal's Quaker Tapestry was the venue for South Lakeland Equality and Diversity Partnership launching an updated booklet about religion, belief and culture; and a Taizé service took place at Kendal's Unitarian Chapel.

The week concluded with the Buddhist Group of Kendal (Theravada) sharing readings from the Dalai Lama’s book Towards the True Kinship of Faiths; a service at the Unitarian Chapel; and an open meeting by the Buddhist group at the Castle Street Centre.
