HUNDREDS of 'very happy and cheerful' youngsters in Kendal enjoyed a merry day to kick start the festive season at the Westmorland Shopping Centre.

At the centre the children were able to take part in the Little Explorers Wonderfully Wild Christmas kids' club.

Led by characters Deer Darlington and Squirrel Nancy Nutcracker, families got to enjoy a host of activities from playing festive games to making special tree decorations out of arts and crafts.

The kids also got to take part in an exciting treasure hunt along with a story time session.

Peter Graynor, Westmorland Shopping Centre Manager said: "We are so pleased that so many families enjoyed our Little Explorers kids' club to kick start their Christmas celebrations.

"It was great to see so many happy faces enjoying the host of activities. We look forward to welcoming more families to the centre throughout the lead up to Christmas."
