A PAIR of 17th century houses in Flookburgh that were once used for shrimp farming could be modernised if plans get the go-ahead.
Applicant Wendy Warwick is seeking consent from South Lakeland District Council to repair and update the Grade II-listed homes at 80 and 82 Main Street.
Built in 1637, the adjoining houses were originally one building, known as Braithwaite Hall, according to the planning documents.
They were split in two around 1935 and occupied or rented out by the Butler family for shrimp farming in the kitchens and outbuildings.
In the plans, Ms Warwick says she plans to sympathetically refurbish the houses for eventual sale, and to preserve any historic architectural features that may be uncovered in the process.
