THERE is still time to enter a photography competition launched to showcase the Lake District's beauty.

The Lake District Hotel Association has extended the deadline until January 31 due to the popularity of the contest. Almost 400 entries have been received on the five themes: animals, activities, seasonal landscapes, unusual perspective and working in tourism.

The winner will be announced in February.

Among the judges will be Jennifer Cormack, chairman of the LDHA, who said: “We have been blown away by the standard of entries so far. Receiving 400 entries has been absolutely fantastic and we want to give more people the opportunity to take part who might not have had a chance to do so during the busy festive season.

"However, January is a glorious month for photography in the Lake District thanks to the stunning winter scenery, so we expect we’ll be seeing many more impressive entries ahead of the closing date.”

The judging panel will also include professional photographer, Tiree Dawson, Kendal's Brewery Arts Centre, local group Wonderful Wild Women and representatives from the Kendal Mountain Festival.

The winner of each category will enjoy prizes such as a one-night stay at a hotel or tickets for a tourist attraction.
