When the question of parking at New Road at Kendal was first being debated I was very much for keeping parking there.
However, now that the unofficial car park has been changed to a grassed area, I am happy to admit that South Lakeland District Council took the right decision, and I would not like to see this attractive landscaped area changed back to a parking lot.
However, whatever decision is taken I suggest that it must be made by Kendalians and not by London-based officials.
The decision to move the General Post Office from its present site to the W.H. Smith shop is an ample demonstration of how totally wrong decisions can be made by London- based officials who do not know the local town.
