A SOUTH Lakeland District Council plan for a 'light touch' refurbishment of Grange Lido have been approved by the SLDC's Cabinet.

The plan envisages the restoration of the lido, which has been derelict since its closure in 1993 and has fallen into disrepair.

SLDC says the work will make the derelict lido site stable, safe and accessible, preserving it for the benefit of the community.

The council, whch still needs full council approval for the £2m financing of the scheme, says it will continue to work with interested community groups to explore options for the future management of the site.

However, the Save Grange Lido group, which was present in force at the meeting, are understood to be disappointed the plans include an infill of the pool area and have vowed to continue their campaign for a fully restored lido including a pool.
