FIRE crews from north Lancashire spent six hours tackling a bitumen tank blaze at Nether Kellet Quarry last night.

Crews from Lancaster, Carnforth, Bolton-le-Sands and Morecambe were turned out to the fire on Back Lane.

They used a hosereel jet, a ground-mounted water jet and fire extinguishing foam injected into water to bring the blaze, which started shortly after midnight, under control.

The cause of the blaze has yet to be established. There were no casualties.
