A PUBLIC meeting to discuss an international needlework festival being planned for an Eden town is to take place next month.

More than 250 visitors from around the world are set to attend the two-week long event in Appleby in 2021, which has been inspired by the life of Lady Anne Clifford. It is being organised by Phillipa Turnbull and Lady Anne’s Needlework.

To help local businesses benefit from the festival, Ms Turnbull is inviting owners of hotels, guest houses, holiday cottages, representatives of village halls and meeting rooms to a short presentation at The Hub in Chapel Street, Appleby, on Tuesday, February 5, starting at 3.30pm.

“We are planning re-enactments, including showcasing Lady Anne Clifford’s dress, which a team of local needleworkers’ joined me in recreating in 2014, with performances of music from that period," said Ms Turnbull. "There will also be visits to castles and stately homes in the area, where we will be able to see some of the original needlework to be recreated during our workshops."
