Essential road repairs and maintenance work is to be carried out on the A591 near Kendal.
Cumbria County Council is investing approximately £650,000 in the scheme which involves both the north and southbound sections of the A591 dual carriageway between Brettargh Holt and Whetstone Lane.
The works, which involve replacing the worn-out road with a new, hard-wearing surface and also upgrading safety barriers, are scheduled to last for six weeks.
A contraflow traffic system will be required to enable these works to be safely carried out.
In order to allow the council’s contractor to install traffic management equipment for a contraflow system, the southbound section of the A591 south of Kendal, between Shenstone and Brettargh Holt, will be temporarily closed to all traffic between 9pm and 5am from Saturday 2 February for up to five nights. A signed diversion route will be in place via the A65.
The road will be reopened to daytime traffic at the end of each shift. The northbound carriageway will remain open as normal during this period.
