THE Kendal Sea Cadet Unit is hosting its annual open day next month and everyone is invited.

Held on Saturday March 9 South Lakes residents are invited to find out what it means to be a sea cadet.

From finding out what skills are taught to the adventures the children go on, such as sailing and rowing on Killington Lake and participating in boating competitions, the opportunities are endless.

People will have the chance to meet a range of cadets and ask them about their experience in the corps from Juniors, aged 10 to 12 years old, and Seniors, aged 12 to 18, as well as meet the Northwest's First Sea Lord Cadet who recently visited HMS Victory in Portsmouth.

The unity has recently celebrated its 75th anniversary in Kendal and over the years has developed the skills of thousands of youngsters.

The open day will be at the cadets base and will be open from 10am to 2pm. Staff will also be on hand to answer any questions.
