Kendal Town 1 Kidsgrove Athletic 2

Kendal Town remained four points adrift of safety in Evo Stik West after losing 2-1 to Kidsgrove Athletic on Tuesday.

Kendal paid the price for missed opportunities in an otherwise dominant display, while second half goals by Anthony Malbon and Kyle Diskin saw the visitors go 2-0 up.

Kendal got back into the game on 61 minutes when Kyle Delves scored from close range however despite the home team’s dominance, Kidsgrove held out to secure the win.

After Saturday's disappointing 3-1 home defeat to Glossop, Kendal were determined to put things right and for the opening stages of the first half, Kendal dominated and pressed the visitors back.

However despite Kendal’s dominance they were unable to find a way through a very strong Kidsgrove defence.

Kendal continued to press and created the first opportunity when Delves headed the ball wide from a corner, before Joseph Dickson saw his effort cleared away.

Kidsgrove's best moments fell to Malbon who blazed his effort over the bar while Jao Mendez in the Kendal goal dealt with a number of crosses into the box.

With Kendal on the front foot they continued to create further chances in an open game, before Ryan Moore had a goal ruled out for offside.

However the best moments fell to Brandon Lee who forced a good save out of Kidsgrove keeper Keiran Harrison before George Mason saw his close range strike hit the side netting.

Kidsgrove created the first opportunities of the second half, through Diskin who fired over the bar, while Mendez pulled off a fine save from Chris Budrys.

Kidsgrove opened the scoring on 50 minutes when Malbon outpaced the Kendal defence before placing the ball into the bottom corner of the net. Kendal nearly equalised from Dickson who fired over while Rhys Thompson headed over the bar for the visitors.

However Diskin made it 2-0 for the visitors after capitalising on a mistake in the penalty box before finishing from close range.

Delves got Kendal back into the game moments later following a clinical move which saw Mason slip the ball into Delves who placed the ball into the net.

Kendal pressed for the equaliser only to be denied by Harrison who made a superb save to deny Jordan Tucker's who’s powerful shot was parried away.

The hosts created further chances through Mason who headed over and Delves who saw a powerful strike saved by the keeper.

Kidsgrove should have made the game safe when Diskin fired his effort into the side netting, however the visitors held onto secure victory while Kendal crashed to defeat.
