STAVELEY'S Rob Jebb won Sunday's Kendal Winter League fixture at Longsleddale - despite going astray at one point.

The V40 held off Wharfedale's Ted Mason by 11 seconds to win the 4.5mile race (1,500ft of ascent) in 36-20 after going off course and having to back track. Ambleside's Jack Wright was third in 36-40.

The winners of the other categories were: MU21, Sam Soles (40-02), of Buxton; MV50, John Murfin (40-40), of Settle Harriers; MV 60, Graham Schofield (46-02), of Horwich; MV70, Denis Wood (1-37-26), Borrowdale.

Helm Hill's Hannah Russell was the first lady in 42-06 and she was 29 seconds ahead of her nearest rival, team mate Kelli Roberts (42-36). Another Helm Hill athlete, Emma Johnston (47-23), was third lady.

Ambleside's Rowan Ashworth (5-59) won the opening U13 race of the day from Lancaster & Morecambe's James Brassington (6-15) and Helm Hill's Leo Ranner (6-21). Barlick's Lucille Pickles (6-32) was triumphant in the girls' U13 race from Keighley & Craven's Milly Timbers (7-11) and Ambleside's Hester Metcalfe (7-12).

Ambleside achieved a one, two three at the front end of the U15 boys' race through James Bowen (11-27), Harry Bowen (11-41) and Thomas Brailsford (11-57). First U15 girl was Wharfedale's Amelie Lane (12-14) ahead of Helm Hill's Sarah Smith (12-50) and Ambleside's Sophie Rylance (13-05).

Keighley & Craven's Eric Beaumont (14-50) headed home the U17 boys from Helm Hill's Alex Tallon (14-55) and Henry Hunter (15-26). Ambleside's Chloe Rylance (17-07) was well clear in the U17 girls' race with Ilkley's Bernadette Raven (18-29) a distant second.
