AMANDA Whittington's gripping play, The Thrill of Love, which dramatises the true story of Ruth Ellis, the last woman to be hanged in Britain, is Staveley Roundhouse Theatre's next production running from next Friday until Tuesday (March 26, 7.30pm, no performance Sunday). The cast includes talented local actors, Sarah Waterhouse as Ruth Ellis, plus Ben Dowman, Kate Vernon, Kate Walford and Rowan Birkett.

Director Chris Whiteside said that he's a true admirer of Amanda Whittington's writing style: "The comedies Ladies Day and Ladies Down Under, previously performed at the Roundhouse, demonstrate her ability for great storytelling, witty dialogue and strong, engaging characters. In the Thrill of Love she utilises these skills to explore the character of the woman behind the headlines and what motivated her to shoot her lover, David Blakely. Yet Ruth Ellis is no fictional character, her story is true and all the more compelling for it."
