KENDAL Castle triathlon takes place on Sunday (April 28). Starting from Kendal Leisure Centre (8.10am) it starts with a 400m swim in the pool and then transition to the bike for two laps of the new bike route that heads into the hills above Kendal and back through the town centre. Finally, a 5km off-road run using the route of the old canal for a short distance then onto woodland trails and the grassy slopes up to the castle ruins before returning to the centre for tea, cake and medals. This event is extremely spectator friendly. Minimum age is 18 ages.

GANDEYS Circus is returning to Penrith with the Greatest Show Tour following sensational performances across the nation in 2018. The show will be staged in the fully-heated brand new Italian Big Top, equipped with the latest theatre-standard lighting and sound effects, at the Frenchfield Sports Centre, from tomorrow (Friday) to Monday (April 29). It boasts an international cast of more than 30 artistes who feature in West End style musical production numbers, as well as three motorbikes which roar as they race around the iron Thunderdome in the centre of the ring. CELLIST and baritone Matthew Sharp and the Northern Chamber Orchestra team up to bring ‘Virtuoso of the Arts’ bringing us extraordinary music from Strauss (Die Fledermaus overture, Tchaikovsky (Sleeping Beauty Waltz), Fauré (Élégie), Dvorak (Slavonic Dance in G minor) as well as other composers. The audience will find the ease with which the host for the evening moves between singing and playing the cello fascinating and enthralling. Head down memory lane to the Lakeland Motor Museum, Backbarrow, and feast your eyes on a unique collection of 30,000 exhibits. That includes 140 classic cars and motorbikes, all carefully assembled over 50 years. The entire collection is presented in a social context, with a host of rarities to awaken some special motoring memories. The Electric Swing Circus is a live six-piece fusion band drawing influence from 20s swing and jazz, the explosive sound of the band reverberates back through time, re-inventing the genre of electro-swing for an ever expanding, multi-generational audience.

The ESC’s sound is a powerful combination of electric double bass, vintage samples, gypsy-jazz guitar, keys, live drums, dirty synths and electro beats. Fronted by a sassy female double-act, with extensive variety of vocal styles, the ESC delivers a consistently dazzling show, and are on stage at The Brewery, Kendal on Saturday (April 27, 8pm).
