STAFF from the Windermere Jetty Museum said they were pleasantly surprised to find an unusual visitor make its nest on the royal plaque the day before the Prince of Wales was due to visit.

Stephen Eccleston, who sent in the photo to the Westmorland Gazette, said it was a nice little surprise for the team.

"We call her the goose that laid the royal eggs," he said. "We were all getting ready to welcome Prince Charles and this was the last thing we expected."

Team members have formed an attachment to the goose and have decided to call her Wilma, one of the main characters from The Flintstones.

"She's part of the team now," said Stephen. "Every morning one of us will go out to monitor and make sure she's okay."

Wilma laid five eggs on the plaque which Prince Charles unveiled on his visit to the museum.

"I don't think he was that bothered," added Stephen. "But we all found it quite amusing.

"Can you say it's a royal flush?!"
