A "GLITZY" ball, which saw more than 130 people from businesses across South Cumbria attend, raised nearly £5,000 for charity.

The Keeping Good Company Ball, held at Barrow's Abbey House Hotel, fundraised an incredible amount of £4,300 for CancerCare.

One of the highlights of the evening was the chance to win a Mercedes car courtesy of a special roll-a-dice competition from Matt Johnson Prestige.

There was also an auction of unique items including a signed Manchester United FC shirt which alone raised £400 for the charity.

Head of Fundraising for CancerCare Emma Athersmith said the night was a brilliant success.

“It was a wonderful evening and it was lovely to see everyone having such a good time and showing their support for the work we do for the community," she said.

"I’d also like to thank everyone who gave up their time or donated prizes to help make the event such a success. We raised an amazing amount of money on the night and it will help us make a real difference to the lives of local people.”

The Keeping Good Company scheme aims to give businesses the chance demonstrate their corporate and social responsibility by supporting an independent charity dedicated to helping people affected by cancer and other life limiting conditions.

Attendees enjoyed a delicious three-course meal and an evening of entertainment provided by the Lakes Wedding Magicians and local Americana band Sugarfoot.
