FIRE officers say a carelessly discarded cigarette thrown onto some kindling sparked a fire in the Lake District on Sunday morning.
Two fire engines were called to an outbuilding at Clappersgate, near Ambleside, to tackle the fire.
They used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet and one main jet to extinguish the blaze along with a triple extension ladder and thermal imaging camera.
Ridge tiles and slates were removed from the roof of a neighbouring property.
The fire has prompted Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service to issue a safety warning and call on people to discard their cigarettes safely.
