SOUTH Lakes residents have their ‘fingers crossed’ for better public transport following a ‘positive’ meeting with local MP Tim Farron and bus company, Stagecoach.

Cartmel resident Patricia Mills presented a petition she had conducted which gathered more than 120 signatures calling for improvements to bus services on the Cartmel Peninsula.

“Public transport in our area has become non-existent,” said Mrs Mills. “It’s not reliable at all, the bus doesn’t come at the right time and they don’t run regularly.”

Mrs Mills met with Mr Farron and Managing Director of Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire Mark Whitlocks and praised them for being so “helpful” and “positive”.

“Mr Whitlocks was really kind and helpful,” she said.

“I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this petition. It’s a wonderful thing that’s happened and I hope more people get behind to help support it.”

With more buses running Mrs Mills said she hoped that there would be less cars on the road, which would help to tackle climate change.
