THE first ever Brathay 5K will take place this weekend alongside the Windermere Marathon.
An estimated 200 runners will complete the course on Sunday, which finishes at Brathay Hall near Ambleside.
At the finish line they will receive a slate medal made by Coniston Stonecrafts, a family-run business which uses slate from Furness-based company Burlington Stone.
Ed Dixon, Brathay fundraising officer, said: "We are very grateful to Burlington Stone who have donated the slate for the medals for the first Brathay 5k event.
"It's a lovely link to the first ever Brathay Windermere Marathon [2007] when Burlington Stone also donated the slate for the medals."
As well as the 5k, Brathay Hall will host a range of family activities on Sunday, including canoeing, paddleboarding and climbing, as well as face painting and a bouncy castle.
It's also a chance to show support for those taking part in the ASICS Windermere Marathon, with a record-high 1300 competitors this year, as well as the 17 hardy runners who will finish the '10in10' (10 marathons in 10 days) by completing the hilly 26-mile route.
All the events help to raise money for the Brathay Trust, which works to improve the life chances of children, young people and families across the North-West and Yorkshire, by inspiring them to engage positively with their communities.
There's still time to train yourself up for Brathay's events later in the year - the Langdale Marathon and Half Marathon are on 19 October, while the Christmas Pudding 10K (also in Langdale) is on 7 December.
