ULVERSTON’S next mayor said she was ‘very much looking forward to the next 12 months’.
Councillor Sharon Webster, the town's deputy mayor, is set to take on the baton of mayorship from her husband Dave Webster.
She said she had enjoyed representing the town as the deputy mayor for the last year.
She said: “I’m really looking forward to being mayor for the next 12 months.
“I’ve been deputy mayor for the last year and it’s been fantastic.
“I got the opportunity to go to France for the Armistice and represent Ulverston in Albert.
“Next year I hope to continue to represent the town to its best.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the last 12 months and I’m sure the next 12 months will be even better.”
Cllr Webster, whose term as mayor will come to an end next week, said he was sure his wife would do an excellent job as mayor.
He said: “I think she will do a wonderful job as mayor.
“She has certainly had a good teacher.
“She is very centred on the town and the people who live here.
“I’m sure she will be a great mayor.”
Cllr Webster will be officially appointed mayor at the Ulverston Town Council meeting on Monday.
She is a Labour councillor for East Ward and was elected in 2016.
She sits on the Allotments, Dickensian Festival and Ford Park committees on the town council
