A WOMAN is cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats in memory of her three children who died within a few years of each other.

Mavis Paterson will be passing through Kendal later today as she tries to complete the gruelling 960 miles challenge.

At the age of 81, Mrs Paterson, from Wigtownshire in Dumfries and Galloway, is also attempting to break the Guinness World Record as the oldest woman to cycle the course.

She will be raising money for MacMillan Cancer.

Mrs Paterson son Sandy died of a heart attack in 2012, followed by his sister Katie in 2013 when she contracted viral pneumonia. Three years later her other son Bob died in an accident.

On her JustGiving page the cyclist described her grief as "unimaginable" but was thankful for the "wonderful support" she has received from friends and relatives.

She is also very grateful to the Macmillan Fundraising Committee in Stranraer who has always been a constant support for her and have always backed her "daft ideas".
