NEW 'Welcome to Oxenholme' signs which include a pointed road safety message have been attached to the recently constructed planters at the side of roads leading into the village.
The planters and signs were purchased thanks to a fundraising drive by Oxenholme Village Residents' Group (OVRG) and a contribution from Kendal Town Council and Cllr Doug Rathbone, who represents the area on South Lakeland District Council.
OVRG have long expressed concerns over the high volume of traffic and the speed of motorists driving through the village.
The group regularly hold 'speedwatch' sessions using a calibrated speedgun as part of an initiative organised by Cumbria Police and are pressing for a number of other measures including speed information devices on Helmside Road.
