A CHARITY is inviting you to become a part of their long-lasting legacy by helping build an extension set to change lives.

Barrow District & Disability Association (BDDA) is calling on the community to take part in its ‘Build-A-Brick’ campaign to become a part of its huge expansion plans.

The BDDA recently revealed its plans to expand its School Street premises after the mother of a disabled client bequeathed them thousands of pounds.

The charity plans on converting the former Identities building, which sits adjacent to the current BDDA site, into a larger, more extensive facility.

Since launching the Disability Advice & Benefits Service (DABS) in 2011, the charity has helped more than 21,000 people.

However, now the charity is inviting you to become a part of the company’s legacy and get involved in their fundraising campaign.

The BDDA has chosen to use the legacy of £96,000 to help provide a purpose built disablement and advice centre for the local disability community.

Costs of lifts, specialist doors, ramps, wheelchair friendly furniture and facilities is projected to cost around £250,000, with 40% of the funding still required to finance the rest of the project.

Honorary chief executive of the BDDA, Margaret Burrow, said:

"BDDA know there are a lot of grateful clients of BDDA, members and the local community who would like to help the organisation in return for help they have received for themselves, family members or friends or just to help disabled people in general help themselves.

"A business plan is being formulated and an exciting new fundraising campaign is planned."

Interested parties can purchase an imaginary brick for £1 each after which the customer will receive a certificate of purchase and their name will go on a ‘brick wall’.
