ULVERSTON turned back time for a weekend-long celebration of musical heritage and vintage travel.

The town was filled with festival-goers as it hosted the Furness Tradition folk festival and Retro Rendezvous.

Owners of bicycles and cars from bygone days showed off their pride and joys, including an iconic DeLorean, the stainless-steel sports car made famous by the film Back to the Future.

Cyclists took part in Velo Retro events, and there were retro-themed stalls, music, food, dance, cinema, clothes, cars and motorbikes.

Alan Brenton, one of the organisers, said: “We only just managed to fit all of the cars and other vehicles in. But it’s gone pretty much perfectly."

Meanwhile, Furness Tradition celebrated its 21st year with performances by bands, singers and dangers, including Friday evening's gathering at the Coronation Hall with music by the Furness Tradition Community Band.

Saturday's acts included Kate Doherty and the Navigators, Benedicts Morris, Raving Rock and Cuttery Coo and many others.

On Sunday the sounds of Morris dancing rang out as performers entertained shoppers at the Market Cross.

Les Ord, secretary for Furness Tradition, said: “There’s been lots of people out in the streets watching the performances and we’ve had a great turnout overall."

Looking back on the past 21 years, he added: “We’ve always tried to bring young performers to the festival and look for people trying to break in to the music scene.

“It’s important for us to celebrate folk music as it is an important part of our heritage."
